Ask, you just may get lucky

Thankful that my "Rock"tober is OVA!  Welcome November and what a nice welcome it is. After being told about 2 months ago to forget about our nice almost 2 weeks long Holiday hiatus from work because of the economy, we were welcomed back this Monday morning with news that its back! Woohoo!  From Christmas Eve (1/2 day) up until January 3rd (which is Sunday) we have off from work.  I am now very much looking forward to the end of December.  I also am very much looking forward to next Tuesday as I have been lucky enough to receive an invitation for lunch at the grand Beverly Wilshire in honor of legendary broadcaster Vin Scully, Voice of the Dodgers.  !!!!!!!!!!!!!  While October turned out an all around crazy month of stress, confusion, questions and just plain rockiness, I still have to Stop and Breathe because life always turns out okay, even if sometimes it takes longer than others.  311 has a song called "It's Alright" which I adore in so many ways; this is the chorus:
"It's alright

Wherever you are right now.
It's alright
that's where you're
suppose to be now."
When life gets hectic I try and remember these words.  Not only does it make you exhale when you hear the words sung, but it provides a sense of relief when the moments come when you want to run away and hide.  I complain a lot more than I should about little things; I say it's the little things that make the most difference, but I am one for certain who needs to remember that there is more to life than right now and life is good.  Breathe and work through right now because time keeps going and as minutes pass, life changes. Move with life and stay open to change; fight the urge to fight all the time, life is a journey and you will make it in time.

Help celebrate a wonderful man if you have the opportunity

The People's Champs!!

Ahhh Yes.  I'm still smiling a little from last night :-)  Dodgers V. Pirates - guess who won? ??  If you stayed up to watch the game or happened to be a lucky fan with a ticket to the game, you know who (or if you know me) ummm... LA Dodgers!! The Comeback Kids did it again - for the 37th time!!  In the 9th inning Kemp did what he does and tied it up 3-3.  The Pirates fought back for a few more innings, even getting another run.  BUT we have Andre Ethier who just happens to be Mr. Humble, Mr. Centered, Mr. Walk Off as Dodgers.com called him.  Either helped pull LA out of a 3-4 potential loss in the 13th inning hitting a Home Run w/ a man on base - Dodgers win it 5-4!

Paul Wall threw out a Pitch before the game!!  Police Chief Bratton was also there!  Visit Goldstar.com if you want some great seats at really great prices :-)

Raw Foods are Super

I'm really considering trying to start a raw food style of living... I think I could do it and it sounds incredibly beneficial. I'm coming to realize that meat is not always my friend. Meat is so much a product of consumerism that it does make me wonder a lot of the time if meat really is good for us. After eating a Sushi meal or a Vegan meal I feel wonderful and usually satisfied, I can't really say the same after eating a meal consisting mainly of meat.  I've really really enjoyed Vegan meals whenever I've eaten them; lately I've also really been trying to find ways to improve my health and in addition to a Pilates program I think this would be great. Cooking food takes a long time; thawing food out takes a long time; both of the aforementioned activities reduce the amount of nutritious value gained from ingesting this food. I love love shopping at Trader Joe's, especially over the average supermarket; supermarkets are SO bright, too cold in some parts, stuffy in others - I feel slightly bad shopping in them - But TJ's on the other hand, is comfortable and satisfying to shop in (even if the aisles are a little tight, but only because there are so many people looking for healthy choices too).  This endeavor will take effort on my part; I think it is time I put some effort into my health. Let's see, if I can put as much effort into this as I do into my love of music & entertainment, I will be one healthy person!

Have a Smurf Day

I heard "The Smurfs" movie has been in the works and wasn't sure how I felt about it...well, I think now I'm excited to see it!  This just reminds me that even though with all the junk that comes out and all the remakes in the works - there are still great movies coming out and hopefully this will turn out to bring Smurfs into the lives of a whole new generation and remind the rest of us why we watched! (Why did we watch?...cause they are Blue! haha :-)  I like their voices and there are so many to relate to; Clumsy, Lazy, Reporter, Jokey, Baker, Grouchy...Smurfette, Papa! I still haven't named them all - have some fun for yourself and re-live the awesome Smurfs from the 80s. (Don't forget the Smoogle and the Smurflings!)

...

I am literally sick to my stomach with mezmerizing disbelief, heartache, and sadness... so many people passing away and now a person who, key word is Seemed, to be having everything going for him and such a positive inspiration to others w/ issues that he was said to have overcome.  Adam Goldstein, DJ AM... apparently found unresponsive in his NYC apt.
"New York New York, Big City of Dreams but everything in New York ain't always what it seems".
I try to stay up on AM's career, as he is one of my favorite artists/people and this "tweet" was the last Twitter post he made.  I remember reading it and it hit me in a way that I didn't know was as significant as it is now. I thought maybe just because it's a strong lyric, hadn't heard it in a while and I like the song.  I was not close friends w/ Adam but always wished one day I would learn to DJ from him but I only knew what the public could.  I got a good feeling from him in that real friendly, kickin' it, doing good kinda person; that line to the Grand Master Flash song now could mean SO much and sounds like it was a way for a DJ to call out for some help/warning.

I had the privilege of seeing DJ AM perform in June during what is one of the best shows I have ever been too (that's a few ;-) ) I remember feeling so lucky/grateful that I was there while He and Travis performed and being thankful that they were still with us to deliver the Magic! ... Thank You for the memories... my heart is with those who were actually close to this human. If I feel the way I do, all of you need the most support. I love this pic because not only was I in the audience but you can see the focus/determination in his eyes and that smile on his face because he is loving and into it so much ... Love you Ma!

IT'S FRIIIIIDAAY!

WOOHOO!  Here's hoping for a great wekend!

Pennywise

At least we'll always have the music.... I am so sad today and also so grateful that I saw what may have gone down as Pennywise's final LA show. I want to believe that they will play some actual final shows w/ Jim in the area soon, but as he has already announced that he is leaving the band, i'm not sure that will happen (and if it did, would I get tickets?) Now, it's actually not the end of "Pennywise" as the rest of the guys announced that they will continue as a band but in my eyes w/ the voice of Pennywise gone, any songs from the last 20 years just will not sound the same. Obviously a band is made up of more than just its lead singer but, if the remaining members want to continue making music they totally should!under a new name. I would love to see these guys keep playing together using their skills but a part of the powerful punk magic is gone.

One of my most prized pieces of rock memorabilia is a poster of this album cover signed by each member - treasure

http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/

Such a funny blog; if you are into cakes/baking or if you just like good commentary - visit this site! I like both so its a total winner :-) Really though, some of the comments on the pictures are epic, especially when you take another look at the cake. I laughed out loud to myself at work, I couldn't help myself - and almost spit out my root beer - you know it has to be good!
*Enjoy*

Viva! Viva!

While this Las Vegas is no longer with us, except in the wonderful world of syndication and DVD - the REAL Las Vegas awaits about 4 1/2 hours away. Very excited for our roadtrip today, I have good vibes and am looking forward to getting away from everyday for a couple of days, plus I get to visit my mom's house! I feel like it is going to turn out a good weekend.
*Hoping for good times & memories*
Wishing you a good weekend as well :-)

"If You're Wondering..."

"If I want you to..."!! Have you heard the new Weezer song? I heard it on KROQ Tuesday morning during Kevin & Bean and was like "hmmm, I don't think so..." then that afternoon I heard it a second time and now, I think I'm addicted! This song is sooo "Raditude" Can't wait til October!

BTW I vote for Orange. We've had 'Pink'erton, Blue, Green, Red...how about Orange? Its a Fall color, energetic like this song - sounds good to me! (I'll be waiting by my phone for Interscope's call any minute :-) )

This One's For You!

August 20, 2009 turned out another great game for LA. All of the boys played very well, even Weaver who seemed a bit shaky held it together. Loney proved that his slump is behind him as the Cubs chose to walk him, getting to Martin, who apparently felt like an easy out. Maybe Next Time!! With Bases loaded Mr. J Martin slammed it to the outfield bringing the boys up 4 runs! Dodgers won 7-2 over Cubs.

One of my favorite plays of the game came during the second inning when Matt Kemp slid into second base breaking up a possible double play by legitimately taking out baseman Theriot, who basically fell on his face and could not complete the play.Kemp slid with his right foot extended out and as he completed his slide, his foot curved in wrapping around the ankle of Theriot, taking him down while Kemp finished his play. Poor Theriot just layed there for a few seconds, probably pissed off, embarassed and sad he doesn't have recovery skills like our 27.

Let's Get 'Em

Another great day in LA. Will have to try SpringStreet Smoke House BBQ next time their mobile truck rolls around the neighborhood I'm in...soley due to the fact that they use the "LA" symbol in blue w/in their logo and it looks very incticing (sorry Barbie, your 'Q' isn't for me). I wasn't able to score passes to meet Quentin Tarantino and listen to his cool tunes at Amoeba but hey, I get to see 2 Dodgers Games this week - in a row! Let's Go Dodgers! vs. St. Louis. I am also excited to see "El Hombre" - athletes are not your average "celebrities" so I'm betting he's a monster in person as he is on television. Tonight's tix are thanks to 76, seats aren't the best but in addition to fueling up my car, I received the tickets. Tomorrow night is the much anticipated Matt Kemp Bobblehead night. SO! excited for this week. I also was doing some searching around and think that I found the shop to head for when I'm ready to get my LA tattoo. Enjoy this short video which features TrueBlue Tattoo as well as our new buddy Lil Matt *drum roll*

Just Breathe

Meditation on the Beach - this is relaxing just to look at, imagine being this woman...*sigh* I like this quote I read today “Your beliefs determine your prosperity”. While it is very important to support ourselves and we all have to work long hours or tedious jobs to do so, it is even more important to remember to take care of ourselves physically. I am trying to work on this each day; I have confidence that I will reach my goals in life or at least come to a position where I am comfortable/happy with what I am doing. Not sure when that will be as I hope there is a lot more living to do but as long as I can keep in mind to take it slow but steady and give thanks continuously for what I have and be kind to those who are closest to us.

A True Legend

What a Guy! At 93 he still performed for audiences and was just as witty as ever. Surrounded by loved ones, the incomprable Les Paul passed away this morning, August 13, 2009 at age 94 due to comlications of Pnemonia. Just this week I watched "Chasing Sound" a PBS documentary of this legendary man's life and I must recommend to any music lover. This man is the true definition of awe inspiring; he explains the creation of his industry changing inventions with such ease, I just watched, listened and tapped my foot to the music, just "wow". I hope one day I am able to be so fully devoted to something that I love that it seems like not much work at all while creating outcomes that are breath taking, soul moving, entertaining, emotional and simply spectacular. I could go on for days talking about music, what a cool dude this man seemed but I'll leave that up to you; learn more about Les Paul, listen to his sounds and I believe your life will be a little better.

I am happy that I found this picture online! I absolutely loved the photo shoot Drew Barrymore did for Elle Magazine. Capturing photos underwater must be hard work but the photos that I've seen make me want to learn how so much! I am really into photography even more lately. I have loved photographs and taking photos my whole life and along the way have learned only a few skills. I really want to learn more about how to capture images and what I really would love is the money for all the great/expensive equipment I need. :-)

Baseball Greats

This is just a part of the reason I am so happy to Love LA; Los Angeles' Boys in Blue are really showing MLB fans what baseball is all about this season. Grand Slams, Home Runs, Doubles, Base hits, hitting for the cycle! You want it? You've got to keep your eyes on our Dodgers! As they move into the 2nd half of the season I am even more glued to the TV schedule to see if FSW, ESPN, KCAL will air the game and even more eager to sit at Chavez Ravine and root for our guys in person - Go Dodgers, We Run LA!

Some Decorum, pahleez!

So much to blog about and its only 913am, which I guess could be WELL into the day for some - its still morning to me, I just got an early start today. It wasn't the best of starts by any means, but I got up and made the best of what I could have made really bad (real bad, Michael Jackson - cause I was mad really mad Joe Jackson - haha, hope you know that Kanye song). Anyways, I drove around Hollywood taking some pics - I happened to catch a new Dodgertown billboard with, of all people, er, characters - Yoda! holding his lightsaber like a bat, saying - My Town This is - instead of their normal slogan "This is My Town" but hey that's normal for Yoda :-) . So I come into work really wanting to blog about something, I feel like talking, more like getting stuff out of my head - so I open up Google, wow - that is some image. Today is Nikola Tesla's birthday (yeah, I had no idea who that was so I used the trusty internet resource to learn more about 'The Genius who lit the world': "Nikola Tesla (10 July 1856 – 7 January 1943) is frequently cited as one of the most important contributors to the birth of commercial electricity, a man who "shed light over the face of Earth"best known for many revolutionary contributions in the field of electricity and magnetism. Much of his early work pioneered modern electrical engineering and many of his discoveries were of groundbreaking importance but due to his eccentric personality and his seemingly unbelievable claims about possible scientific and technological developments, Tesla was ultimately ostracized and regarded as a mad scientist.[6][7] Never having put much focus on his finances, Tesla died impoverished at the age of 86." (from wikipedia) ...
The great are often considered mad, but just misunderstood :-).
So what really got me going this morning is people - ahhh, isn't it always?! Was my mother one of the last to teach "if you don't haven't anything nice to say, don't {freakin'} say anything at all"?! I've really really really been urked lately by people's rudeness, bluntness -to say the least. Maybe my own non-understood hostility is a result of my noticing more, I think maybe i've been more careless lately but not heartless, without a thought! If a person you know gets a hair cut that you don't like, puts on more weight than looks 'healthy' or is wearing something that you don't believe looks good, please first think about yourself. Who are you to this person, what are you about to say, how are you going to say it and WHY? I think the latter is the most important thought here. WHY are you saying what you are saying? My mother once told me that I probably shouldn't wear (my favorite skirt) anymore. I took offense but really she was looking out for my best interest; she didn't come at me in a snearing criticizing tone. She didn't want me walking around my school/town looking foolish while my butt ate my skirt. We weren't in front of my friends, any boys, or in a crowd. How about some decorum in the ways we interact with others and act simply as individuals. It would be nice.

*Side note: I'd like to ask Ralphs grocery store this: people often use 4-wheeled carts while in grocery stores which they then also use to transport the items purchased, outside to some mode of transportation awaiting in the parking lot. If you are going to spend what I would guess is hundreds of thousands of dollars remodeling, why do you make the first half of the exit a ramp, which leads you to the only way out, a flight of stairs...? Okay, there is an elevator - which is at the moment, still sketchy as if under construction. I see stairs so thinking nothing of it I make my way up, which then takes me to a second level that turns and leads you to the only way in - up a ramp, okay fine. As I leave, I think to myself "self, if I had a cart and chose to take the ramp - or thought I had to take the ramp, how do I then get my cart down the stairs to my car?" I saw an older man getting off the elevator (which presumably worked) as I exited into the pakring lot - what if the elevator is broken one day? What about people who have a handicap? Do I need to write a letter to someone? I'm sure I missed something. There must be a way out another way, down the other half of the ramp that I didn't see, because it isn't obvious...maybe I'll take the time to explore another time.

With the Angels

Wow, what a week. I have so many things to be thankful for! This week has been a lot of fun and I am also now even more grateful for life and the time that I am able to share with the people I love. Today has become a day that will be marked in History, remembered for its impact on Entertainment & Popular Culture. Farrah Fawcett passed away this morning at age 62 after battling with cancer for more than 2 years. She was a goddess in the 70's and as years went on she continued to draw people to her with her smile and caring nature. It is now confirmed that Michael Jackson - MICHAEL JACKSON! has passed away of cardiac arrest at age 50. Paramedics rushed to his Holmby Hills home about 1230pm and found Mr. Jackson unconscious not breathing. As expected, the media is swarming around UCLA Medical Center where he was taken by ambulance and no doubt surrounding the streets near his parents' home in Encino. One could discuss Jackson in so many different aspects, especially over the years as events took place, judgements and speculations occured, and jokes were made. As the weeks go on and stories are told, events recalled upon, we must remember that the main reason the world came to know this person is because of his talent, creativity, desire for love. What people do with their lives, personally, most of us will really not ever come to know. People make good and bad choices constantly. We are all human, struggling to live life the best way we know how with the tools we are provided with by our parents and environment. "A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives" ( I took this quote from a photo at Dodger Stadium, not sure the origin). When anyone passes away it is a reminder to live the best life you can everyday that you are given. We do not know for certain how long we have here on Earth; the desicion you just made - the words you just spoke could be the last memory someone has of you. Rest in Peace to all of those who have passed away but even more so, good wishes for all of us who are still trying to find the right path through this life. May we all be driven to make the best choices for ourselves and those around us.

Get a Dictionary!

I'd call it a slam, not a highlight of an awesome fighter! Last night watching good ol' SpikeTV they were showing some of the greatest knockouts and best moments in MMA history. Well about 40 mins into the program they start hyping up Mr. Chuck Liddell. Over the years Chuck has displayed some great skills and strength. He definatly has knocked some guys out - that's for sure! So as my boyfriend and I continue to watch, waiting for what we think is going to be some great moments in Liddell's career - calm cool Chuck giving his opponent a good knock to the face then run around the ring backwards howling like the Iceman does! When the show comes back from commercial however, they begin the introduction of Liddell vs. Evans. (wait, what?) Right away bells go off in my head and I look at my boyfriend who already looks upset. Sure enough, as we had remembered it, this is the fight Chuck did not dominate but in fact was on the receiving end of one nasty knockout. Tribute? I was not the only one to hear this word. How is this a tribute? Did Chuck and the UFC have a falling out? Does someone (producer/writer) not know the meaning of "Tribute"? At any rate, if I were Chuck's team I'd have some words with the people at UFC.

"Up" up and ... away

I've been wanting to see "Up" since reading the plot of the story and have heard great things about it from those who have seen the movie. I just read this article about a little girl whose dying wish was to see the latest Disney/Pixar film but became too sick to actually go to a theater once "Up" released. A close friend of the family decided that she was going to make this little girl's dream come true, if she could only make the right connections. She did! A representative for Disney/Pixar visited the girl's home where the movie was screened for her to enjoy, fulfilling her last wish. Shortly after the screening of "Up" the child passed away. She only wanted to live long enough to see the movie, other than that she was "ready" to go..."Up", her mother shared.

This touched me in so many different ways, there are so many discussions that could come from this story...the timing of it all, the idea that people can live for certain moments, a corporation actually responding to a random telephone call from a lady with a personal issue (sure, there is some publicity to gain here, but they already support Make A Wish)... I could go on. It is a very inspiring story; it reminds me to take chances - on your(my)self, do/say what you really feel/want (truly desire), have passion, live everyday to the fullest and... answer the phone, you don't know who is calling or why.

All Aboard!

My First Blog! Well, aside from entries on MySpace and the random comment posted to another's blog. Somehow I've been thinking lately that it is Rocket Science to become a blogger, even though I took classes on this stuff in College and could have started this years ago! At any rate, i'm now on board to create an area to share commentary about my life and everything that influences me (that I feel like sharing/commenting on). For much of my life I have been a pretty "lucky" girl and hope to share my wonderful experiences - even the not so great experiences are often worth sharing - so here's to the beginning of another new venture, rocket science or not!

*Take Care*
